Expert HVAC Services in Provo, UT

Provo has some of the oldest housing stock in Utah Valley and it shows up in our service calls.

The neighborhoods around campus and off Center Street are full of homes built long before central air was standard, so the cooling got added later and the ductwork got worked around whatever was already there. A lot of those places have a furnace in a crawlspace, returns that are undersized for the square footage and a second floor that’s been fighting the thermostat for decades. Newer construction up on the bench doesn’t have those problems but it has its own. Either way the climate is the same and it’s demanding, with summer afternoons in the 90s under constant sun and winter nights that drop below freezing for weeks.

Whipple covers HVAC service in Provo, UT across all of it. AC repair, furnace repair, installs, replacements, heat pumps, ductless systems and the maintenance that keeps a system out of trouble. Call (801) 515-2213 or schedule online.

Reliable Air Conditioning Services

Our cooling services handle AC repair, installation and replacement plus annual tune-ups, heat pump cooling and ductless mini-splits.

Cooling here is a sun problem as much as a temperature problem. Low humidity and clear skies most of the summer mean the house is absorbing heat all afternoon and your AC is still working at 8 p.m. trying to catch up, and that’s when the inefficiencies get expensive. A system that’s a little undersized or a little low on charge will limp through June and then cost you real money in July and August.

Older Provo homes are where we see it worst. Add-on cooling in a house that was never designed for it usually means one room stays hot no matter what the thermostat says, and the standard answer for years was to just buy a bigger unit. That doesn’t fix it. Oversized equipment short cycles, never runs long enough to pull humidity or move air properly, and wears itself out faster. Sometimes the fix is duct work and sometimes it’s a mini-split for the room that’s the problem, and we’ll tell you honestly which one you’re looking at. Worth calling for AC repair in Provo, UT if:

Most of that traces back to a refrigerant leak or restricted airflow. Neither improves on its own and both get more expensive once the compressor takes the damage, so we find the cause before anything gets replaced.

Professional Heating Services

Winter in Utah Valley is long and cold and your furnace does most of the heavy lifting from November into March.

Our heating services include furnace repair, replacement and installation along with heat pump heating, seasonal maintenance and emergency service when the heat goes out overnight.

What we find on furnace repair in Provo, UT doesn’t vary much. Ignition trouble, dirty burners, a blower that isn’t moving what it should, filters nobody has touched in a year. In the older homes we also run into furnaces well past twenty years old that are still running and still burning a lot more gas than they need to, and that’s usually the conversation about whether another repair makes sense or whether replacement pays for itself in what you save every winter. Uneven heating room to room is common in those houses too and it’s almost always ductwork rather than the furnace itself.

The calls all come on the same night, which is the first hard freeze. Get the tune-up done in September or October and you’re not on that list.

Air Quality Improvement Solutions

Utah Valley gets the inversions worse than most places. Cold air settles in the valley for days at a time in December and January, everything that goes into the air stays there, and opening a window is the last thing you want to do. Summer brings its own version with ozone and the wildfire smoke that drifts in some years. On top of that the air here is dry to begin with and running the furnace all winter takes out whatever moisture was left, which is where the static and the dry throat and the trim pulling apart come from. Indoor air quality work is how we deal with that. Whole-home air purifiers, upgraded filtration, whole-home humidifiers, UV purification, ventilation improvements.

Filtration is the first thing to look at if inversion season is your concern, since that’s the stretch where indoor air is what you’ve got. A humidifier is the upgrade people notice fastest in the winter because air with moisture in it feels warmer at the same setting. We’ll look at your existing equipment and recommend what works with it.

Provo HVAC FAQs

My house is from the 1940s. Can you even put central air in it?

Usually yes. It depends on what’s there for ductwork and how much room we have to work with and in some houses a ductless system ends up being the better and cheaper answer.

Should I repair my furnace or replace it?

Age and repair cost. Past fifteen years, with a repair running a decent fraction of a new system, replacement generally makes more sense once you count the efficiency you gain back.

When should I schedule tune-ups?

Spring for the AC, September or October for the furnace.

Does a whole-home filter actually help during inversions?

It helps with what’s in the air inside your house which matters more in December than any other time of year since you’re not ventilating.

Thank You
