Pros and Cons: Hydro-Jetting

Arguably the most common issue that homeowners face in plumbing is clogged drains.  The most common solution to this problem is snaking. The snaking process involves a long steel cable that’s inserted into the drain and clears blockages.

The alternative option, Hydro-Jetting, is a process relying on water pressure to complete the same tasks as a snaking solution, without the damage. Let’s take a look at the pros and cons of this process.

What is Hydro-Jetting?

Hydro-jetting is a high-pressure drain cleaning method using a forceful stream of water. This water will then pumped into the drain at levels ranging between 3,000 and 8,000 pounds per square inch of pressure (PSI). Different plumbers work with ranging types of equipment, to varying effectiveness.

Benefits of Hydro-Jetting

  • Effectiveness: During the hydro-jetting process, the water pressure levels being used exceed several thousand psi.  This method is incredibly effective at removing common blockages.
  • Versatility: Hydro-jetting is effective in almost any situation, from smaller residences to huge commercial buildings. With high enough PSI, none of these areas will present much resistance.
  • Extra benefits: Hydro-jetting is even effective at removing tree roots from pipes, one of the primary causes of major sewage line breaks. Typically, tree roots and branches in pipes require a full overhaul of the system.

Downsides of Hydro-Jetting

There is only one notable downside to hydro-jetting: Damaged pipes. Against weaker or older systems, the intense water pressure can be too powerful. At Whipple Service Champions, we know how to check your pipes in advance to ensure they’ll withstand the pressure.
