Signs It’s Time For Spring A/C Service

Spring is finally here, and within the home, that means it’s time to make sure your air conditioner is functioning properly. At Whipple Service Champions, we’re here for you in force this time of year to help with all spring A/C services.

Now is the perfect time to be checking for a few common signs that it’s time to make changes or repairs to your air conditioning. Here are a few of these common signs, and how to look out for them.

Odors

There are a couple of smells to be aware of when dealing with your air conditioner: The first is a musty smell, the second is a sharper, foul smell. A musty smell is a sure sign of too much moisture in the AC unit – this will lead to mold and mildew, and potential long-term issues. That sharper negative smell typically indicates that wiring in the AC unit is burning out, and needs to be replaced.

Warm or Less Air

Poor airflow is one of the first noticeable signs of AC issues. The most common form here is simply lack of air – this could be an issue with the compressor, blower fan, or ducts containing blockages. It could also be a result of debris entering the system and stopping optimal airflow. Without service, these issues can lead to negative air quality.

Warm air can be just as large a concern, even if it’s flowing in the proper amounts. This typically means the unit is low on refrigerant – you can add more, but you’ll also need a technician to check for a refrigerant leak.

Weird Sounds

If you hear a rattling, grinding, or squealing sound coming from your air conditioning frequently, this likely means significant mechanical issues are taking place, and you need professional service sooner rather than later.

Different Rooms, Different Temperatures

Air conditioning for your whole home is supposed to keep every room at a similar temperature, but thermostat issues may keep this from happening. You may notice big temperature differences between rooms, or large air amount differences. Check the proper settings of your thermostat first, but if this doesn’t do the trick, this could be a sign of a circuit breaker issue.
