For most homeowners, replacing one HVAC unit can be expensive enough. If you can save a little money by riding out one system longer than the other, why shouldn’t you? Because this could, in fact, cost you more money in the long run.

Below, our expert Salt Lake City HVAC comfort consultants explain the benefits of scheduling simultaneous AC and furnace installations

It’s Time for an Upgrade

HVAC systems are constantly being redesigned and upgraded to bring consumers better performance, higher energy efficiency, increased safety, and, in some cases, a broader range of capabilities. An air conditioner that is 10-15 years old and a furnace that is 20+ years old are both considered outdated by today’s standards. Modern AC systems are required to have a minimum Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratio (SEER) of 13 — though you will find that many models have efficiencies ranging between 14-17 or higher — whereas modern high-efficiency furnace systems have an Annual Fuel Utilization Efficiency (AFUE) of 90-95 percent.

If your air conditioner and heater are both reaching the end of their lifespans, replacing both systems at the same time is a smart choice. Purchasing two brand new systems that are compatible with each other will help each unit retain its efficiency longer. More on this below.

Improve HVAC Efficiency

Installing a new AC and furnace at the same time maximizes performance and efficiency, which in turn produces the ideal home comfort. Air conditioners and furnaces are like two peas in a pod. They share key components and work in tandem, more often than not. That’s why HVAC experts don’t recommend mixing and matching units of different ages. Combining a new furnace with an old AC system or vice versa will put more strain on the furnace and slowly lower its efficiency.

Save Money on Replacements

Another great reason to replace your whole HVAC system? You may be able to land a great deal!

Most manufacturers understand how big of an expense this is for the average homeowner, and they offer plenty of promotions or rebates during the year. We always try to advertise great deals when they become available, so head on over to our coupon page to see what we have in store for you.

With this in mind, we also want to point out that replacing your AC and furnace at the same time is not always a necessity. There are a few cases where you’re better off installing only one new unit. Let’s take a look.
